USTA League Tennis Overview

USTA League Tennis is the country's largest recreational tennis league, providing organized, structured team matches for men and women of all ability levels. Levels are based on the National Tennis Rating Program (NTRP) and range from beginner (2.5) to advanced (5.0). All teams are set up according to player's NTRP rating. Therefore, players are assured of facing off against someone of comparable ability. This allows for a highly competitive and fun tennis environment.

Eric Butorac Tennis Challenge December 5 At Fred Wells Tennis & Education Center

Rochester native and world-class tennis professional Eric Butorac will host the first annual Minnesota Tennis Challenge Saturday, Dec. 5, at the Fred Wells Tennis & Education Center in St. Paul, Minn. In addition to Butorac, other touring players including Justin Gimelstob, Rajeev Ram, Somdev Devvarman, Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Julie Ditty will participate in this fundraiser.

2009 USTA Northern Award Winners Announced

USTA Northern announced its 2009 winners of 10 different awards, hailing from all corners of the Section which includes Minnesota, North and South Dakota and Northwestern Wisconsin. The honorees will be recognized at the 2009 USTA Northern Award Banquet Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Minnesota Valley Country Club in Bloomington, Minn. Tickets are $40 for the event and are available by contacting Lisa Mushett at mushett@northern.usta.com or at (952) 358-3282.

The 4.5 men’s team captained by Eric Gleason won the 2009 USTA League Tennis National Championships in Las Vegas. The 4.5 women also played in Las Vegas, while the 3.0 seniors were in Tucson, Ariz.

The weekend event will celebrate the game of tennis with both on- and off-court sessions, a vendor fair and a tennis exhibition. The Festival will have a lot of everything for people of all ages and ability levels. This will take the place of the USTA Northern Community Tennis Workshop that is traditionally held in November.
