Current Gophers women’s volunteer assistant coach Imke Reimers won the women's singles title at the 14th Annual Boston Scientific Aquatennial Plaza Tennis Classic at One Financial Plaza (2nd Ave. and 5th Street) in downtown Minneapolis Friday. Reimers, who played #1 at Nebraska and was the #1 seed in this tournament, defeated #2 seeded Amy Jamieson 6-2, 6-1 in the finals.

Former Gopher Nic Edlefsen won the men's singles title at the 14th Annual Boston Scientific Aquatennial Plaza Tennis Classic at One Financial Plaza (2nd Ave. and 5th Street) in downtown Minneapolis Thursday. Edlefsen defeated 2007 champion Tony Larson 7-6, 6-2 in a match that lasted over two hours with extraordinary shot making and court coverage by both players.

The weekend event will celebrate the game of tennis with both on- and off-court sessions, a vendor fair and a tennis exhibition. The Festival will have a lot of everything for people of all ages and ability levels. This will take the place of the USTA Northern Community Tennis Workshop that is traditionally held in November. Alex Clayton and Whitney Paluch Win SD Open Titles

Alex Clayton and Whitney Paluch won the singles titles at the 2009 South Dakota Open in Sioux Falls. It was the third consecutive victory for Clayton, and Paluch’s first win at the tournament. Clayton, who will be a junior at Stanford, defeated Tony Larson of Alexandria, Minn., while Paluch beat Kylie Huether of Sioux Falls in the finals.
