Fred Wells Tennis & Education and St. Paul Urban Partner For $40,000 USTA Grant; Spearfish Also Received Grant

Fred Wells Tennis & Education Center and St. Paul Urban Tennis partnered to received a $40,000 Recreation Tennis Grant from the USTA. The Spearfish Tennis Association also received money from the USTA.

2009 USTA Northern Award Winners Announced

USTA Northern announced its 2009 winners of 10 different awards, hailing from all corners of the Section which includes Minnesota, North and South Dakota and Northwestern Wisconsin. The honorees will be recognized at the 2009 USTA Northern Award Banquet Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Minnesota Valley Country Club in Bloomington, Minn. Tickets are $40 for the event and are available by contacting Lisa Mushett at mushett@northern.usta.com or at (952) 358-3282.

Life Time Fitness Bloomington South To Host QuickStart Training on December 12

Eric Butorac Wins Bangkok Event With Rajeev Ram

Eric Butorac won the doubles title when he and Rajeev Ram defeated Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain and Mischa Zverev of Germany 7-6, 6-3 at the Bangkok Open over the weekend. It was the second title of the season for the duo and the seventh win of Butorac's career. He is now ranked No. 38 in the world in doubles.

Elliott Sprecher of Cadott, Wis., won the Boys 14s national championship at the Nike Jr. Tour USA National Masters tournament September 18-20 in Stanford, Calif. Sprecher, who was unseeded, defeated the #1, #2, and #3 seeds in claiming the title and becomes the first player in USTA Northern history to win his age group at the Nike tournament.

Grand Forks' Cindy Lim Wins Gold At 2009 National Rapid Rally Event

Grand Forks' Cindy Lim won the gold medal in the 12-13 girls group at the 2009 U.S. Jr. Olympic Skills Rapid Rally Championship at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. Gregory Wischer, also of Grand Forks, earned a silver medal in the 12-13 year-old boys event, while Maddie Anderson of Thompson, N.D., won the bronze medal in the 10-11 girls age group.

The weekend event will celebrate the game of tennis with both on- and off-court sessions, a vendor fair and a tennis exhibition. The Festival will have a lot of everything for people of all ages and ability levels. This will take the place of the USTA Northern Community Tennis Workshop that is traditionally held in November.
