What is World TeamTennis?
World TeamTennis, founded by Billie Jean King in 1974, is different from traditional tennis in surprising and exciting ways. For example, players compete as members of a team rather than as individuals, and every game counts toward the team’s results. All scoring is no-ad, players on the bench cheer for teammates (and opponents) on the court, coaching is encouraged, and player substitutions (unheard of in "standard" tennis) are allowed. Remembering WTT's unique and wacky rules is a fun challenge for everyone!
A WTT match has one set each of men's and women's doubles, one set each of men's and women's singles, and two sets of mixed doubles. If the total game score is tied after these six sets, excitement builds as the match goes into overtime or a match-winning supertiebreaker is needed!
A WTT team needs a minimum of two men and two women. At least six to eight players (or more) are recommended, to allow for substitutions and vacations. If you don’t have a team or captain, you could become the captain and form a team. Or, if you don’t have a team but wish to play, we will try to find an existing team for you.
Twin Cities Corporate League
The Twin Cities World TeamTennis corporate league is in its fifth summer season. Players enjoy the fun, fast-paced, coed format that promotes corporate spirit. In 2008, nearly 250 players participated on 21 teams, with most enjoying the official sponsorship and financial support of their companies.
Last year, we hosted teams from Boston Scientific, Ernst & Young, General Dynamics, General Mills, the Greater Twin Cities Tennis Association, Honeywell, Land O’Lakes, Lockheed Martin, Medtronic, MTS, PTC, US Bank, and USTA Northern. Co-ed teams will compete this year weekly at the 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, and 4.5 levels. Winning Twin Cities teams will advance directly to the WTT National Championship tournament in Indian Wells, California on October 30 - November 1, 2009.
Divisions offered: 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, and 4.5
