Apple Valley hosted the first in a series of USTA Jr. Team Tennis Twin Cities Area Championships – a prelude to the USTA Northern Jr. Team Tennis Section Championships July 27-30 at the University of Minnesota’s Baseline Tennis Center. Other Twin Cities area championships scheduled include events in Coon Rapids, Lakeville and Shakopee.
At the Apple Valley event, the Wells Warriors from the Fred Wells Tennis & Education Center won the 14-and-under division with 106 total games won. The Hutchinson Wonders were second with 102 games, followed by the White Bear Lake Top Spinners at 76 and the Apple Valley Serves at 66 games.
In the 18-and-under division, the Mankato Serena was first with 112 total games won, followed by the Apple Valley Aces at 107 games. Mankato Venus was third with 69 and the Apple Valley Lobs fourth with 55 games.
The Hutchinson Wonders and Apple Valley Lobs won the 14U and 18U Team Spirit Awards, respectively, while Sarah Jensen and Josh Carlson of the Wonders took home the 14-and-under Sportsmanship Awards. Hilleary Reinhardt of the Apple Valley Aces and Derek Grams of Mankato Venus won the 18U Sportsmanship Awards.
